Aviation Century: World War II
Beginning in 1939-40 with the German blitzkrieg and the Battle of Britain, aircraft repeatedly turned the tide of war. Their worth was proved in many roles besides bombing and airborne assault, including air defense, support of ground operations, maritime patrol, shipping strikes, transport support and reconnaissance. Warplanes became indispensable and revolutionized the character of war.
In Aviation Century World War II, stunning images of preserved and restored wartime aircraft are combined with archival photographs of the world's first well-photographed war to tell an unprecedented visual story of World War II. The unforgettable images are accompanied by insightful text that explains the strategic role of warplanes and describes the types and models of aircraft used by each nation, and re-tells the dramatic stories of the war.
Forewords for Aviation Century World War II are written by World War II veteran pilots Ramsay Potts and Don Lopez.

B-52 Stratofortress: The Complete History of the World’s Longest Serving and Best Known Bomber
The B-52 is the longest serving and most versatile of the United States Air Force's combat aircraft. The Stratofortress entered active service in 1955 and is scheduled to continue as part of the air force's inventory through 2040. The jet-powered bomber was a mainstay of America's Cold War nuclear-deterrent strategy, providing air power that balanced the land and sea military forces. The massive plane also served as the launch platform for the experimental X-15 hypersonic rocket aircraft. Due to its versatility as an aircraft, the B-52 has seen combat service in all of America's military conflicts since it came on active duty: Vietnam, the first and second Gulf wars, and the War in Afghanistan.
B-52 Stratofortress also covers every aspect of the aircraft's development, manufacture, and modification. These technical details set the stage for its military service, starting with its role as a nuclear bomber in the Cold War even though only conventional weapons have been used during its combat duty. The airplane's service in key campaigns in Vietnam is covered, followed by the quieter years after it. The B-52 returned to prominence in the Gulf Wars and Afghanistan, taking part in massive bombing campaigns in both conflicts. Finally, the book ends with the constant upgrades that will keep the B-52 an integral part of U.S. airpower for decades to come.

Battle of Britain Day: 15 September 1940
On 15 September 1940 the Luftwaffe mounted two massive daylight raids on London. RAF Spitfires and Hurricanes responded, and the resulting air combats were among the most concentrated ever fought, with eight aircraft destroyed in mid-air collisions alone. Those momentous events are still commemorated each year on "Battle of Britain Day", and Alfred Price's book documents the memories and first-hand accounts of those who witnessed them in the air and on the ground.

Billy Bishop, VC
A brief account of the life and career of the First World War, Canadian fighter pilot, Billy Bishop.
Billy Bishop: Canadian Hero
Billy Bishop was fiercely ambitious, driven by an undisguised hatred of his enemies. He played hard and fought even harder. A highly skilled pilot and a crack shot, "top gun" of the Allied air forces, by 1918 Bishop was the most highly decorated war hero in Canadian history.
He remains the most controversial. Some of Bishop's fellow pilots were repelled by his grandstanding and suspected he was deliberately inflating his number of "kills." Since then, the claim has been repeated by many others. This issue is at the heart of Billy Bishop: Canadian Hero.
In this updated second edition, author Dan McCaffery reviews the evidence in support his account of what Bishop really did in the skies over France, setting the record straight about one of this country's most famous and controversial figures.

Bomber Command 1939-1945
From 1940 to 1945 RAF Bomber Command attacked the industrial heartland of Germany. Daylight attacks were impossible in the face of German interceptors, so RAF aircrew had to learn to bomb by night. Anti-aircraft guns and night fighters took their toll; 55,000 RAF personnel lost their lives in the bombing campaign. Survivors of this campaign reveal what it was like to take off, knowing that the chance of completing a tour of operations was less than one in ten. They describe every aspect of their war from training flights to special missions, and how it felt to bail out from a stricken bomber over the Ruhr.

Brace for Impact: Air Crashes and Aviation Safety
Why do planes disappear or fall out of the sky? Brace for Impact traces the evolution of accident investigation and explains why flying is the safest form of travel.
The history of air accidents is a harrowing one. Yet today flying is the safest mode of transportation, thanks in no small part to the work of crash detectives. Whenever a plane falls from the sky, the investigators pick through the wreckage for the clues they need to decipher what happened to that flight. Before the invention of the black box and the evolution of forensic accident investigation, the causes often remained a mystery.
Since the Wright brothers first took flight, aircraft design, pilot training, aircraft maintenance, and air traffic control have all evolved to current standards of safety. Because of lessons learned from tragedies such as what befell the Comets in the 1950s, the Douglas DC-10s in the 1970s, and ill-fated Air India, TWA, and Swissair flights, flight safety continues to improve. In many ways, the history of aviation is the history of air crash investigation.

Bush Pilot’s Mayday: Bush Pilot’s Journal Book One
Bush Pilot’s Mayday is true life adventure based on logbook entries and recollections of the author’s fellow pilots and companions. Ken Forscutt flew a Cessna floatplane for 17 years into various places in Northwestern Canada, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. His aircraft was equipped with a minimum of radio gear and all navigation was done the “old way” - with maps and a simple compass. Here, Forscutt relates the many adventures and misadventures that befell him as a private pilot. After learning to fly in Manitoba, Ken made numerous trips to remote northern Manitoba lakes for hunting and ice fishing expeditions. In one hair raising adventure, Ken finds himself clinging to a pontoon and locked out of the plane’s cabin as it propels itself across a lake and up into the air. In another, he mistakes the sound of a seat belt banging against the outside of the plane, for a missing strut and causes himself unnecessary grief in landing the plane. Ken often flew parties and individuals to remote fishing lakes in Alberta where fish and adventures abound. He flew in the Northwest Territories where he had several close calls - while landed on an ice field en route to Tuktoyaktuk, Ken is forced to make an impromptu take off when the plane and its occupants are chased by an angry Polar Bear sow and cub. He mistakenly flies into restricted air space when he runs into the Mid Canada Early Warning System. This is a well written book that will appeal to aviators, armchair pilots and anyone who like a good story told well.
Bush Planes and Bush Pilots
In February 1932 legendary bush pilot Wilfrid May used his Bellanca Pacemaker to hunt down the notorious killer Albert Johnson, the "Mad Trapper of Rat River." Russ Baker used his Junkers W34 to pluck 24 men from a Yukon mountainside after three bombers crashed in apalling weather in 1942. Jack Hunter tracked rumrunners off the New Brunswick coast in his Fairchild.
Bush Planes and Bush Pilots is the story of sixteen extraordinary aircraft found in the collections of Canada's aviation museums. It is a celebration of some of the greatest moments in Canadian history, when daring young pilots defied incredible odds to open up some of the nation's remotest regions to the outside world. Author Dan McCaffery highlights a diverse spectrum of planes from the pioneer era to the modern day; each plane is profiled individually, accompanied by historical and contemporary visuals and colour artwork.
Bush Planes and Bush Pilots is an attractive book that will appeal to all who are interested in aviation history and the story of Canada's development as a nation.
